About

“Home? Bound” - Luca Tu‘avao Walton

Across the Moana is a collective exhibition
that celebrates the power of cross
cultural connections, chosen family and
community.

Inspired by the legacy of Reina Sutton —
an artist and event organiser who fought
for marginalised creatives — this show
brings together artists who Reina loved
and whose work reflects her enduring
memory as a curator.

Across The Moana honours the lasting
bonds of friendship and the voices and
spaces Reina passionately supported. It is
a tribute to the connections that continue
to inform and guide us.

Is a short video work by Luca Tu‘avao Walton, shot and edited in Tonga while visiting family after years away. It reflects on the time spent amongst his family and imminent return “home” to Aotearoa and the uneasy feeling of disconnection of going “home” to a place that no longer easily holds the title.

With his motherland now sitting firmly in the heart, the work traces the quiet tension of belonging split between two places.

This work will be shown in the digital screen across Te Oro and Wheke Fortress from Friday 30 May - Friday 25 July.

Opening event:
