About

Koe Ngatu Teuteu 'o 'Akesa Pulini Fifita

Te Oro hosts a suite of 18 colour photographs and a video that takes you through the steps of making ceremonial Tongan ngatu. The exhibition was created by the many and talented hands of the grandchildren and extended family of ‘Akesa Pulini Fifita and is shared in support of celebrations for Uike 'o e Lea Tonga (Tongan Language Week).

This highly personal story documents an initiative uniquely led by the younger generations of a family and shows the process of love, belonging and respect for the craft and culture.

IVI is focused on the design and delivery of collaborative projects. These projects draw on the process, function, pedagogy and aesthetic principles of collective arts practices intrinsic to the Pacific. The projects explore, with partners and participants, how such practices can integrate scientific and faith based systems of knowledge that build capabilities for service to families and communities.
