About

Aotearoa Bone and Stone Carving (ABSCA) is a kaupapa Māori-led creative arts organisation based in Auckland that specialises in bone, pounamu (greenstone), and stone carving workshops.

Founded to promote wellbeing, cultural connection, and positive outcomes through creativity, ABSCA combines traditional Māori values such as tikanga, whanaungatanga, manaakitanga, and mahi toi within a hands-on learning environment. Participants create their own taonga while gaining insight into Māori culture, customs, and artistic practices. ABSCA works with schools, youth groups, marae, community organisations, correctional facilities, tourism providers, and corporate groups across New Zealand.

Through its workshops and wānanga, ABSCA strengthens cultural identity, personal growth, wellbeing, and community connection while preserving and sharing the rich traditions of Māori carving. Website - absca.nz
