The Te Oro Artist Residency Programme has been designed and developed to support high-quality creative outcomes through dedicated time, space and professional support. The programme offers two streams-Visual Arts and Performing Arts-and provides selected artist and collectives with the opportunity to research, develop and present new work with a supportive and professional environment.

DIGITAL ARTS RESIDENCY

Te Oro is now offering its first Digital Arts Residency as part of the Visual Arts stream. This four-month residency provides dedicated access to our digital suite, giving a digital artist the opportunity to research, develop, and experiment with new work. The Digital Arts Residency sits within Te Oro’s wider Art and Performance Residency Programme.

The Digital Arts Residency is part of the Visual Arts stream. This residency provides dedicated access to Te Oro’s digital suite, supporting artist working across moving image, interactive installation, projection, digital illustration, projection, digital illustration, virtual environments, and hybrid digital forms.

WHAT THE RESIDENCY PROVIDES

  • Four-month residency period
  • Dedicated studios
  • Access to studio during operation hours Mon – Frid 9am – 7pm and Sat 9am – 4pm
  • Artist Stipend
  • Visual and Digital Arts this includes material costs - $3500
  • Performing Arts - $3000
  • Professional mentoring support
  • Paid workshop opportunities
  • Networking and professional development
  • Support towards a final public, exhibition, performance


WHO SHOULD APPLY

  • Career artist must be 20 years old and over.

What we mean by Early, Emerging and Established artist:


  • Early artist – An artist of any age that is at the early stages of their artistic career. They may or may not have formal training. They will have less experience and may not have exhibited their work.
  • Emerging – Is generally an artist who has a history of professional work, regional/national recognition and consistent exhibition record.
  • Established – An artist that may or may not have had formal training but will have experience in their artform that is recognised national and internationally by merit or at least 10 years of experience.
  • The residency would contribute to the artist creative and professional development
  • Artists’ proposed project aligns with the identity and values of Te Oro
  • Open for individuals or collectives/groups that can nominate a single point of contact for all liaisons.
  • All artists welcome to apply with priority going to local (Glen Innes and neighbouring suburbs) artists/groups/iwi given.
  • Or residents residing in Auckland, New Zealand


SELECTION CRITERIA


  • Alignment with Te Oros values and identity
  • Artistic merit and project quality – The proposed artwork shows conceptual strength.
  • Innovation and exploration in your proposed idea or project.
  • Clear intentions for research and experimentation and development.
  • Proposed project demonstrates potential to push boundaries in their chosen medium.
  • Feasibility of project and new body of work to be realistic within the four months residency period.
